The Moral Argument

I love the cinema and I love films - especially the films that remind you why you're into politics and why you fight for a better world. I saw Amazing Grace which is a truly inspiring story about the abolition of the slave trade in the British Empire led by William Wilberforce and the fearless abolitionists who fought against the vested interests of the time to win one of the most famous parliamentary victories of the progressive movement.

I also like going to church to recalibrate the old moral compass and this last weekend I heard about the modern slave trade which is entirely monstrous and needs to be put to an end. A movement called Stop The Traffik is attempting to bring the issue to the United Nations as only a global response can bring this to an end. I would urge any readers to use the link below and sign up. The moral argument is undeniable. Slavery must end within our lifetime and for good.

Thank you for the anonymous comment. My post was about slavery around the world and how wrong it is and that it needs to be challenged.

I cannot claim that corruption does not exist in political circles - including the party I support - but I set my own standards high and I do not go for the idea of guilt by association.

In terms of the links - some of them are fairly vile and verge on racism. You of course do not directly say what you think on the matter - you just say that the ubiquitous "you" (which I can only assume means the Labour Government) is doing to this country. I think you are probably projecting your own woes on to other groups in society as they cannot possibly down to your own acts or omissions.

I feel very sorry for you and hope that you come to learn that government is not the answer to all societies’ problems and that the only way to make progress is to build a fair and tolerant society where we all can prosper. Turning on one another is not the answer.

You probably thought I wouldn't allow the post - and that I would spin aplenty if I did allow it. But you are wrong. I stand by my comments about the slave trade and I work in my own way through politics and through the voluntary sector to make the world around me a better place. Perhaps you should start to do the same rather than posting such links in comments boxes on blogs.
